Germs - Today's Science Link
So, I'm not feeling very well. My sinuses are acting up and I've got that achy feeling. You know the one.
I thought about skipping today's daily science favorite and then realized it was the perfect opportunity to search for a fun interactive game about .... GERMS!
So here you have it... hope you can keep the germs contained on screen and not catch them for real.

tchr2tchr -- Brand New Blog!
If you haven't heard, there is an awesome collaboration project going on with teachers that sell items on TeachersPayTeachers.
Some of them have gotten together to create a blog with helpful info. in bi-weekly articles and special deals. The Thursday Roundup is going to launch tomorrow.

Secrets at Sea -- Today's Daily Science Favorite
This interactive website guides students on a discovery to learn the Secrets at Sea. Begin by finding out what is causing the whales to leave their pods.

This engaging website game complements ocean-theme units of study in the classroom and enhances studentsÌ learning experiences using the Internet. Students play the starring role of "Ace", assistant investigator to Paula Pacific, who is assigned to examine unusual behaviours noticed in killer whale populations in the Alanamorris Strait. As Ace progresses through the story, s/he must successfully complete a number of ocean-related learning activities. Double Dose
My goodness, the day just slipped away from me and I completely forgot to post a favorite link so I guess I'll make up for it with a double dose of two favorites.
I was recently reminded of the Monster Project. This is great for encouraging young scientists to be clear when communicating with others. In this project, students create their own monster and then write directions for someone else to follow as they try to recreate the monster as an exact match if possible. What is even more exciting about this project is that students get to collaborate with others around the globe! This is especially fun near Halloween but the current project is still open for registration until Sat.
If you're into project based learning and inquiry based learning then you probably use rubrics for assessment.
You'll want this tool! RCampus. This is my 1st stop when developing a rubric. It is really so much more. My favorite part is that any rubric I create can be saved and if I make it live then I can attach it to a class roster online and click my way to completing my assessments. It's a super cool time saving tool! As a matter of fact, my interview is one of the featured case studies on the site.
So there you have my double dose for the day. Hope you can find something useful here to make up for my forgetfulness.

The Nature of Science - Today's Science Favorite
As websites go, this one may seem quite "Plain Jane" at first glance. Take time to dig a little deeper and you will walk away with 24 lessons that employ the strategy of problem based inquiry science. These are intended for students in high school, but with some modification I can see how upper elementary students and middle school students could be successful in grappling with some of the core concepts found within the structure of these problems. edheads -- Today's Favorite Link
I've done pretty good this week and posted a favorite science website every day. I'm thinking that the Friday post will carry through the weekend. Look for daily science favorite websites to be posted on weekdays only.
With that said... my favorite site to share today is EDHEADS. This is a fabulous site where students can build Rube Goldberg machines, predict the weather, and even perform a virtual hip replacement. You simply must check this out if you have a SMARTboard in your classroom. My students just love using this website with our SMARTboard.
